After a few conversations, we decided to take the short drive to Wimberley, Texas. Driving from South Austin to Wimberley we took Ranch Road 12 out of Dripping Springs. This drive is a very beautiful and curvy. As you drive along, on either side of the road are ranches and smaller farms with rolling hills all around you. In the distance, you can see the larger hills that abound in this area of central Texas. I always enjoy this drive because of the beauty. Upon our arrival in Wimberley, we walked around the unique shops and galleries they have there. We enjoyed our day in the beautiful town, had lunch at the Wimberley Cafe and purchased a few items. Mid afternoon, we decided to take a drive down River Road and take in the homes along the Blanco River. Just another beautiful drive. And by the way, if you like this area, check out my listing of a lot for sale in River Oaks. It is a 5 acre lot that will make a great home site for some lucky buyer! To get the rankings, Forbes took the country's 50 largest U.S. metropolitan statistical areas and assigned points to metro regions across 4 data areas: average salary for workers with a bachelor's degree or higher, annual unemployment stats, cost of living, and housing indexes. Austin earned high marks in all catagories. Austin's 5.5 unemployment, the University of Texas, and the fact that it is the state capitol played into the rankings. This information should make our city look very good to businesses that are looking for a place to move their company or to expand. And of course, whenever new business comes to our area, new home buyers will follow. Let's all work together to keep Austin the kind of city that will attract new business and new home buyers and keep our economy robust.

Old Pecan Street Festival

This is the weekend for the Old Pecan Street Festival in downtown Austin. The festival will be on the streets between 5th and 7th from IH 35 to San Jacinto with arts and crafts, food, and entertainment booths all along the streets. It is a great fun family event. I remember last year seeing folks walking along with their dogs and looking at the different items on display for sale. There are all kinds of items for purchase so bring your money. My favorite thing is to walk around and sample the different foods. Some of the ones that I will be sure not to miss are the funnel cakes, kettle corn and the roasted corn on the cob. The festival is being held May 2 from 11am - 10pm and May 3 from 11am to 8pm. Come on out and join me in enjoying this great Austin tradition.
