Building in Olympic Heights ended in 2008. Here you will find tree lined streets, street lights, sidewalks, walking trails and a community swimming pool. The homes are a mixture of stone or brick with hardy plank. The community is the least expensive masterplanned community in south Austin. The streets are reminiscent of the streets in Europe with roundabouts in the center at certain intervals. All the streets are named for olympic medalist from the past, i.e. Mary Lou Retton, Marcus Abrams, etc. Prices in this community range from around the mid $100's to the low $200's. Where is Olympic Heights?You will find Olympic Heights about a mile and a half south of Slaughter Lane, between Manchaca Road and Brodie Lane. Shopping near Olympic HeightsFrom Olympic Heights you will be able to find shopping in several areas. If you leave Olympic Heights via Brodie Lane, the nearest shopping would be at the corner of Brodie and Slaughter Lanes. Here you will find a Randall's Grocery store, a jewelry store, a tanning salon, and a coffee shop. Across the street is a CVS Farmacy. If you take Manchaca Road, you will find an HEB grocery at the intersection of Manchaca and Slaughter Lane. There are a few other shops in the center with HEB. If you turn right on to Slaughter Lane, go a few blocks you will find Southpark Meadows shopping center. Here you have a Walmart, JC Penny, several furniture stores, and so many otheres that I cannot remember all the shops. There is also a theatre here for your entertainment needs. You should be able to find what ever it is that you need. Across the freeway, there is a Home Depot. Restaurants near Olympic HeightsOne of my favorite texmex reastaurants, Texican Cafe, is near Olympic Heights on Manchaca Road just south of the subdivision. There are several other places to eat if you go up to Slaughter Lane either from Manchaca or Brodie Lane. Along Slaughter Lane you can find McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, Maudie's Texmex,and a Brick Oven Pizza. On Manchaca Road at Slaughter Lane is Taco Cabana and Popeye's Chicken. Going east on Slaughter Lane, at Southpark Meadows, you will find many places to take care of that hunger. Here you will find Chic-fi-la, Sonic, TGI Fridays, and many other fine establishments.
